Our Story, His Glory

More than seven decades of gospel witness in Casper, Wyoming.

“Our Story, His Glory.”

Our story is one of God’s faithfulness — from a tent revival meeting in 1950 to the worship that fills our building today, the Lord has kept a witness for Himself here in Casper, Wyoming.

  • August 1950

A burden for Casper brings Dr. Ed Nelson of Denver to conduct old-fashioned tent meetings in North Casper. From the Carlson family home to the North Casper Women's Clubhouse, a small nucleus of people remains faithful in worship. A generous donation of two lots on the edge of town answers the growing need for a church home.

  • May 1951

Dr. John Weidenaar arrives as the first pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. Groundbreaking for the first building commences on South Jackson Street that June.

  • Easter 1952

With the building completed, opening services are held. Spiritual and numerical growth continue as the body of believers becomes the church.

  • November 1972

An excited Calvary Baptist gathers for groundbreaking on a new building.

  • Easter 1974

The first service is held in the new building.

  • October 19, 1975

Dr. Ed Nelson and Dr. John Weidenaar return as guest speakers for the church's official dedication, held fittingly on Calvary's 25th anniversary.

  • 1994

Jeff Matney joins the staff as youth pastor.

  • 1999

Pastor Matney is ordained and takes the call to pastor the church.

  • Today

Calvary Baptist has had nine pastors over the years, each presenting God's Word while encouraging service to Jesus Christ. With Jesus as our Shepherd, we have a heart to see souls saved, and we continue to glorify He who is worthy of our praise.

The next chapter of this story is still being written — and there’s a place in it for you and your family.
